Cet article analyse les dimensions spatiales de la politique britannique de l’Indirect Rule dans le Nigeria de l’époque coloniale. Il examine à la fois la création et les modifications des frontières régionales sur des critères historiques et ethnolinguistiques. Cet article entend démontrer que le rôle politique et constitutionnel donné à ces frontières pendant la décolonisation du Nigeria est essentiel pour comprendre les dynamiques spatiales du Nigeria du XXIe siècle.

Abstract : The spatial legacy of Indirect Rule in Nigeria

This article analyses the spatial dimensions of Indirect Rule in colonial Nigeria. It examines both the creation and modifications of the Nigerian regional boundaries based on historical and ethno-linguistic criteria. This article contends that the constitutional and political roles given to the regional borders in the decolonization years are pivotal to understand the spatial dynamics of twenty-first-century Nigeria.
